| Ok, so I'm going to try this again, even though I don't know if anyone reads this anymore. I was really close to giving up on Xanga, but I decided to give it one more shot. So for the most part, life is really good right now. I love it here. I love the people, my classes, my activities (especially Circle K- it's amazing how much better it is than key club. We get to do so many awesome things), and my life here in general. I'm finally starting to get used to the fact that this is where I'm going to be for the next few months, and I guess I'm ok with that. It's starting to feel like home. In a way, this feels more like a home than my actual home, which is kind of in transition at the moment. I haven't really gotten to the point of thinking of my house in G.R. as home, since I've only spent 2 nights there. I still miss my friends and family like crazy too. My parents are coming this weekend for homecoming, which I'm really excited for. I can't wait to see them! I guess homecoming is a really big deal here, too, so it should be interesting. I may or may not be in the parade for International Student Organization (which I'm in despite the fact that I'm far from being an international student). It would be nice to actually win a football game for a change- we'll see. So Gilmore Girls started this week! Is anyone else as excited as I am? Anyway, I'd love to say something more intelligent, but my brain isn't functioning very well right now, so I think I'm just going to go to bed. I'll try to write again when I'm feeling more creative. Good night everyone. | | |
| Hey guys! Sorry, I know it's been forever. I've been busy and, I must admit, I've been spending a lot more time on Facebook than here. Anyway, college is awesome! I like my classes for the most part, and I'm meeting more & more people I have things in common with. My roomates and I are getting along fine, especially now that I've realized that we don't really have to be friends, as long as we respect each other. Friday night and Saturday I hung out with Emily in Chicago, which was awesome! We shopped pretty much all day Saturday, but all I bought was coffee. I saw lots of cute things, but nothing I had to have, and besides, I'm a poor college student now. Next weekend I'm meeting my mom in Chicago, though, which I'm really excited about. I miss her. Anyway, today I walked into town and spent a couple hours at Starbucks reading, which was great. I hadn't been to Starbucks since I started here, and I was definitely missing it. Then I went to my first college yoga class. It was great, but a little too easy for me. We just did really basic stuff, and I didn't even break a sweat. It was really relaxing, though. After class, I went to dinner with some friends, and then I went to a House- watching party in my neighbors' room. Tomorrow I have classes all day, which I'm not looking forward to, but after that the hard part of my week is over. I'm volunteering for Circle K on Saturday at a benefit dinner for a therapeutic riding center in Lake Forest. I'm definitely looking forward to that, especially since I get a free dinner & concert. I hope you're all having a great week. | | |
| Well, life is still good at LFC. I've had 2 days of classes now and they've gone pretty well. I have to write 2 papers, though. :( And do a ton of reading. But overall I don't think I'm going to die in my classes, which is good. My roomates and I are still getting along well, even though we differ slightly when it comes to preference of weekend activities. I had many new experiences last night. Nothing too serious, just interesting. Ask me if you want to know more. I went to a concert tonight with a girl I met a couple days ago- it was awesome! The bands were Decibully, Headlights, and The City on Film, all of which were great. Decibully was my favorite- I bought a CD. It felt really good to go to a concert again, too.
Right now I'm sitting in my room listening to "Like a Prayer" blast from someone's crazy sound system and a whole bunch of people singing along. Gotta love college, right? Last night the same people played Everlong, though, and I had to go stand on the balcony & listen. It was pretty amazing.
My only hope is that it cools down a little so I can actually get some sleep. I wake up early every morning dying of heat and I can never get back to sleep. I also have a class in an unair-conditioned building, which is somewhat torturous. I normally hate air conditioning, but there are times when it's just necessary.
I'm coming home next weekend, so if anyone wants to see me, give me a call. I'll probably get into town around midday on Saturday and leave Sunday evening. I can't wait to see my new (temporary) house, my family, and of course all of you! Until then, I hope you're all having fun whatever you're doing, and I'll talk to you soon.
| Hey everyone! It's been awhile, and a lot has changed in my life. I'm officially a college student now! Although I haven't actually started classes yet, so basically I'm getting all the fun without any of the work. I think it'll actually be a little sad once classes start and I can't just do whatever I want. I love my roomates, and I've met a lot of other great people, including the guys next door who helped us carry the futon we bought yesterday up to our room. Everyone wants to hang out in our room now- it's awesome. We watched Anchorman a couple nights ago, and last night we watched Donnie Darko. We've also had an awesome time just talking and getting to know each other.
Today we all went to Chicago with our first-year studies classes, which was fun, but exhausting. My class went to the Field Museum, and then we walked back to the train station through Grant Park & Millenium Park. I'm back in my room now, watching TV with my roomates, and I think we're going to go out to dinner in a little while. I hope those of you who are at school now are having an awesome time, and that people are having fun at home. I miss you all! Please comment, e-mail, and/or call- I would love to hear from you.
| Well, I'm back from Pentwater & getting ready to leave for LFC. Pentwater was amazing! For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, Emily, Jill, and I went camping for a couple days in Pentwater, which is one of my favorite places in the world. We played mini golf, ate ice cream, watched the sunset, hung out on the beach, walked on the pier, went swimming, climbed Mt. Baldy, and had two awesome campfires. It was the perfect way to end my summer and have some quality time with my friends.
I leave in 2 days, and I am both extremely excited and extremely scared. I have no idea what to expect from college, but I have to keep reminding myself that this is something I've been looking forward to since the beginning of junior year, when I went to Lake Forest for the first time. Packing has been overwhelming and confusing, since I have to decide where I want everything to go, and leaving this house is going to be hard, not so much because of the memories I have of it, but just because I love it. In a way, though, I think it's good that I'm facing all of this at once. It makes it worse now, but it'll be better later, once I'm settled in at school and in my new house and I don't have to face any more big changes for awhile.
Anyway, I don't know if I'll have a chance to update again before I leave, so I hope everyone is having a fabulous summer, and to those of you who will also be leaving for college soon, I wish you the best of luck. And please keep in touch. E-mail and my cell phone are the best ways to reach me for now and they probably will continue to be. I'm sure I'll be feeling lonely for the next few days, so I would love to hear from all of you. Next time I talk to you, I'll be a college student! I'm so excited!!!!!!
